RX - Kiss of a Life (J.Fusion)

James Brown - Live at the Apollo Theatre (62)

Steve Hackett - The Tokio Tapes Live in Japan

He was lead guitarist with Genesis as part of their classic line up with Gabriel, Collins, Banks and Rutherford, that produced acclaimed albums such as Selling England by the Pound (a favourite of John Lennon).
With Steve's extraordinary versatility in both his electric guitar playing and his composing, he involves influences from many genres, including Jazz, World Music and Blues.

He is equally adept in his classical albums that include renditions of pieces by composers from Bach to Satie, his own acoustic guitar compositions that have gained the admiration of many, including Yehudi Menuhin, and ambitious guitar/ orchestra albums such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, recorded with the Royal Philharmonic.

With Genesis, Steve's guitar playing produced some of the most memorable moments, from the sensitivity of his acoustic sound on Horizons and Blood on the Rooftopsto the dramatic rock guitar solos of Firth of Fifth and Fountain of Salmacis. As he embarked on his solo career he developed his exceptional range, pushing musical boundaries into exciting areas, inventing new sounds and also techniques such as 'tapping'.

His solo career went from strength to strength and the mid eighties not only saw the hit single Cell 151, but also the Steve Hackett and Steve Howe super group GTR, highly successful in America.

After GTR Steve worked further with many renowned musicians such as Paul Carrick, Bonny Tyler, John Wetton and Brian May, who has credited Steve as an early influence. Steve went on to produce his hit album Genesis Revisited.

He went even further back to his roots with Blues with a Feeling, whilst continuing to challenge his own 'horizons' with an amazingly eclectic mix of sounds, genres and a sense of the exotic that excites his many followers to this day.
Recent albums have possessed a high level of sophistication, along with an ever-present powerful dynamic, from the dramatic and atmospheric darkness of Darktown and Wild Orchids to the colourful voyage through time and space of To Watch the Storms. 2009's Out Of The Tunnel's Mouth, written and recorded in the midst of domestic and professional upheaval, was released to an overwhelmingly positive response from fans and reviewers alike, many of them proclaiming it his best ever.

Steve's live electric gigs take his fans on an extraordinary journey drawn from a rich musical heritage. Perennial Genesis favourites such as the mighty Firth Of Fifth sit alongside solo classics, while more recent material, with much of Out Of The Tunnel's Mouth now included, demonstrate that Steve is an artist still at the very top of his game. Supported by some of the best musicians on the planet, Steve's unique guitar work remains the fulcrum on which this challenging and exhilarating show is balanced.

Genesis' induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in March 2010 stands as a testament to the enduring qualities of their music. Never one to rest on his laurels, though, Steve continues to blaze a trail with new material and to be an exhilarating and groundbreaking artist.
This 100minute DVD features the triumphant performace of Steve Hackett and his band playing a magical set in the heart of Japan.

In this feature concert footage, Hackett demonstrates his uplifting musical prowess by performing his emotion-building ballads with his orchestral rock n' roll outfit: John Wetton, Ian MacDonald, Chester Thompson, and Julian Colbeck.

It is literally comparable to story telling without words. Songs include "Heat Of The Moment", "Watcher Of The Skies", "Horizons", and many more.
With the lineup reading like a virtual Who's Who of prog-rock, this concert has to be seen to be believed!

Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett leads a band made up of John Wetton (formerly of Asia), Ian McDonald (formerly of King Crimson), John Wetton (also formerly of King Crimson at one time), Julian Cookback, and Chester Thompson perform 17 stellar tracks, including "Battlelines," "Horizons," "Walking Away From Rainbows," and "Black Light."
Personel:

Steve Hackett (guitar,vocals)

John Wetton (bass/guitar/vocals)

Johnny Winter.....I'm a Bluesman!!!!!

Aretha Franklin - Amazing Grace (72)

Bom, eu sempre amei a soul music, black music, godspell music, spirituals music , etc, etc e etc.

Pro Dead, porque ele abraça meu porco espinho interior.

Salm 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

From Six Hours Live: Genesis - Live At Le Club Bataclan (January 10, 1973)

Greg Lake -"From the Underground-Volumes 1 and 2"

ELP - Live at Montreux (1997)

Emerson, Lake and Palmer: “Emerson, Lake and Palmer: Live at Montreux”

If you manage to take anything away from “Emerson, Lake and Palmer: Live at Montreux,” which might be a hefty task in itself, take away the fact that no matter what it is, 1985 or 1997, when this live show was filmed, Carl Palmer is an exceptionally talented drummer.

To tell you the truth, this DVD might be better left for those who appreciate sheer talent behind a drum set over any other facet of a live performance, and it’s those enthusiasts who will enjoy this release the most.

And speaking in truths still, if you do not know much about Emerson, Lake and Palmer and their massively talented back catalog, “Emerson, Lake and Palmer: Live at Montreux” might be right up your alley, because serious fans of the trio might be quicker to pass this off as dreadful in more ways than one.
A lot of things about “Emerson, Lake and Palmer: Live at Montreux” just manage to feel off, most notably the vocals and keyboards.
Greg Lake seems to labor through some of the vocal numbers, though he makes up somewhat with his excellent acoustic guitar playing, and you can tell Emerson gets lost at the points where his speed on the keys picks up.

And that’s not even mentioning the portion of the show that sees Emerson introduce an old organ to the stage. The quality of the on-stage product aside, the quality of the DVD itself is mostly suspect, as parts of “Emerson, Lake and Palmer: Live at Montreux” tend to come off as a bootleg or audience recording, and not soundboard or master.

“Emerson, Lake and Palmer: Live at Montreux” isn’t completely hard to watch, but it can be a pain at times. But even with all of its pitfalls and shortcomings, casual fans of ELP should pick up a copy, for nostalgia purposes or to reminisce, either or, even if you can tell that this band is awake well beyond their bedtime.
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer are a British progressive rock group that formed in 1970 and consisted of Keith Emerson on keyboards, Greg Lake on bass guitar, and Carl Palmer on drums. Early on during their formation, there was some interest by guitarist Jimi Hendrix being involved in the band before his untimely death.

During the 1970's the band, also known as ELP, had a string of six albums that were released over a four year period that secured the band's position as superstars of the time. While they disbanded in 1979, there were later incarnations that continued to perform, but it was not until 1991 that they reformed as a whole and began recording again. Their final tours were in 1996, 1997, and 1998.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer: Live At Monteux 1997 was recorded at the Monteux Jazz Festival that takes place in Switzerland every year in July. Obviously this is not the ELP from their heyday, but the band and the quality of their music is very good and they are still able to bring it to the stage.
As it seems with every aging band who has not been continually touring, ELP has what I call the mini-skirt moment when, like the grandmother who wears a skirt too short for her age, they look a little silly.

Keith Emerson pulling his old broken down Hammond organ down on top of himself to play it backwards is one of those moments. Yes, it is cool to see him playing it backwards, but it just seems out of place.

The video is recorded in 1080i/60 and presented in 1.78:1 with an AVC/MPEG-4 encoding. While it may not be the sharpest in high defintion, the overall presentation is very clear for a recording from this time period.

The sound is DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and to me it sounded quite clear. The keyboards perhaps could have been blended a little back into the mix, but since they are the overall central focus, I can live with it.

As far as any extras, this to me was a disappointment. It seems that over the last 30 years there could have been some interviews, out-takes, or other such material that could have presented a more well-rounded picture of the band.

That being said, I found Emerson, Lake & Palmer: Live At Montreux 1997 to be a very enjoyable experience and will definitely watch it when the mood hits. If you are a fan of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer and want to experience the live feel that Blu-ray provides, then I think that this presentation is worth the time.

Comprised of NICE's keyboard player Keith Emerson , KING CRIMSON's bassist Greg Lake , and the ATOMIC ROOSTER's drummer Carl Palmer , 1970s supergroup EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER crafted expansive, near-orchestral prog-rock influenced by jazz and classical music.

Disbanding in 1979 and embarking on various solo careers, the trio reunited in the 1990s to produce a new album, "Black Moon", for which they toured extensively in 1997.

From Six Hours Live: Genesis on Belgian TV – 20 Mar 1972

Steve Walsh and Kansas "There's Know Place Like Home"

To celebrate their 35th anniversary, Kansas returned to their hometown of Topeka and recorded a live album, aptly titled “There’s Know Place Like Home”.

Starting in the 1990s, quite a few hard rock bands decided to go “the symphonic route,” by putting on concerts that merged big guitar riffs with swirling strings. For this live album, Kansas recruited the local Washburn University Symphony Orchestra.

This is an interesting collection that covers quite the breadth of the band’s career. Several tracks are no-brainers, including the instantly-recognizable hits “Point of Know Return”, “Song for America”, “Dust in the Wind” and “Carry on Wayward Son”. Others are more surprising inclusions, especially the instrumental “Musicatto” and the 1983 single “Fight Fire with Fire”.

Many tunes on the album fits quite well here and kudos to the band for reaching back in their catalog for a few songs that don’t get played much in concerts.
Of particular note are “On the Other Side”, the opening number from the band’s 1979 album “Monolith”; followed by another unusual but welcome choice, a montage of “Ghosts” and “Rainmaker” from 1988's “In the Spirit of Things”.
The rest of the album is a bit more predictable and more instrument-centric, probably because Walsh’s voice would be wearing down after the strenuous first half.

“Icarus II” followed by the original Icarus span a quarter-century of the band’s discography but fit well together both thematically and musically. “The Wall” is a crowd-pleaser and highlights the band’s outstanding ability to meld rock, melody and progressive music into a tight package.

This is followed by the obligatory and totally predictable encores “Dust in the Wind” and “Carry on Wayward Son”, and although that would be it for them at most concerts, they return for one more number, a jam session centered on the “Down the Road”.

Many fans will likely nitpick about the song selection, but for a band with a catalog as vast as Kansas it would be very hard to come up with just two hours of music that wouldn’t leave someone disappointed.

Steve Walsh & Kansas "There's Know Place Like Home" - Topeka 2009

There's Know Place Like Home

We got to the meet and greet about 15 minutes after it began at Washburn University. The line was long but full of great people, all eagerly awaiting to meet the band and get a treasure signed.

The band patiently signed everything and took photos with each of the people who paid to be in the "Golden Triangle". Later we also got the opportunity to hear the band rehearse and were allowed to take non-flash photos, a dream come true for me, I finally got some decent ones.

Of course with flash they would have been better, but I'm happy nonetheless! You could tell how excited the Washburn University Orchestra was to play.
During the rehearsal I can't tell you how many people I heard say this was the best $200 they had ever spent, and the show hadn't even begun yet!

The day of the show, there was an empty seat next to me, one of the folks in the group next to me couldn't make it at the last minute... not wanting that $200 ticket to go to waste we asked Debbie to find someone, she found Connor, he was 13... I asked him if he was a musician... he was... a violinist! He was going to be an arm's length away from David Ragsdale, what a treat for him to be able to see such an amazing violinist ... you couldn't get any closer! Bet he's glad now he picked violin to play!

Kansas mesmerized the crowd which gave a standing ovation to every single song! I've never seen that at any show before. Steve's voice was powerful and moving even through songs that I admit aren't my favorites, he made me forget that... it was like all the numbers were new and exciting. Time flew by too fast and the audience was absolutely pleased, the energy was amazing!
