The Prog Collective

As we anticipated here some months ago with an exclusive advanced track, one of the biggest musical collectives in Prog history has been gathered together by former YES musician Billy Sherwood.
Today, the appropriately titled CD "THE PROG COLLECTIVE" hit the streets.

Sherwood has persuaded some very high profile talents in the genre to appear as guests on a record on which Billy also plays most of the instruments.

The recording includes some of the greatest names in Progressive Rock History all in one album; from Yes, Asia, Gong, Alan Parsons Project, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Porcupine Tree and XTC. There is also a neat vocal by Annie Haslam (Renaissance) who duets with Peter Banks, the original Yes guitarist.
Interestingly the bar code sticker on the CD states 'File under Yes', but a Yes album this is not, far from it.
Opener "Laws Of Nature" features the great vocals of John Wetton alongside a killer electric violin played by the legendary Jerry Goodman of the Mahavishnu Orchestra fame. It is great to hear Goodman has not lost any of his superfast skills, laying down a pace which only a master class bassist of the calibre of Tony Levin could handle. The drums are actually played by Billy Sherwood, who is responsible for the “Prog Collective” producing, recording and mixing all the tracks at his Circa Studios in Los Angeles.

On "Technical Divide" Sherwood managed to secure the services of his old Yes compatriot Chris Squire, thus ensuring a thumping bass, supporting a lead vocal by Alan Parsons with strutting and soaring guitar work by Gary Green, he of Gentle Giant fame. A tight musical combination.

Sherwood's production skills are well renowned within the music industry and on "Buried Beneath", he utilises the soaring guitar playing of Steve Hillage to build up a sheer wall of sound with keyboards and xylophone contributed by Larry Fast, who was very instrumental with the early works of Peter Gabriel.
Strangely enough I would never have listed XTC as a pure prog band, but on "Check Point Karma" Billy has cleverly landed the talents of Colin Moulding, the bass player of XTC, to take the lead vocal in the cool journey that is this tune. A very accessible melody with Rick Wakeman providing two easily recognizable Hammond solos, the only critic being they are simply just too short.

Billy Sherwood has pulled together some of the greatest names in prog history, all of whom joined with great enthusiasm for this unique idea.
“The Prog Collective” sounds vital, dynamic, and it's almost perfect in all aspects. The sound and production is lush and brilliant.

I strongly recommend this "Deluxe Edition" which includes an extra CD featuring instrumental versions (and a little remix) of each track, giving a completely new dimension to these fabulous compositions.
“The Prog Collective” will appeal a wide range of audiences, not only Prog, that's for sure. So melodic rockers, aorsters, and people with good taste in music, don't miss this one.
Highly Recommended.

Prog Exhibition "40 anni di musica immaginifica" (Show Completo)

Aerostella.

LE ORME (TAGLIAPIETRA PAGLIUCA MARTON): Roma, Teatro Tendastrisce - November 5, 2010 first ever show of this line-up with special guest David Cross!

After the show in Montreal in September 2009, Aldo Tagliapietra left Le Orme.

The rest of the band hired former

Metamorfosi singer Jimmy Spitaleri and so far has released two albums.

Aldo re-joined with Tony Pagliuca (Le Orme keyboard player from 1970 to 1993) and Tolo Marton (who played guitar in a couple of Orme albums in the 70's) and since it is
still not clear who has the right to bring the Le Orme brand, they decided to call the band with their names.

Actually I feel that this is the real Le Orme line-up since it has two of the three founder members as well as Tolo Marton.

This was their first show together, during a prog festival that had all the main prog acts from the 70's: PFM, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Osanna were there.

Each of them had a special guest: while PFM had Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull and Banco had John Wetton, le Orme invited David Cross to join on a couple of tracks.

Sound quality for this one is very good.

And the show is very hot!

This line-up is currently writing for a new album.

Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated - Red Hot From Alex 1964

Muddy, BB, Howlin Wolf , etc e tal?

Alexis Korner (19 April 1928 — 1 January 1984) was a blues musician and radio broadcaster, who has sometimes been referred to as "a Founding Father of British Blues".

A major influence on the sound of the British music scene in the 1960s, Korner was instrumental in bringing together various English blues musicians.

Alexis Andrew Nicholas Koerner was born in Paris to an Austrian Jewish father and a half-Turkish half-Greek mother, and spent his childhood in France, Switzerland and North Africa.

He arrived in London in 1940 at the start of World War II.

One memory of his youth was listening to a record by black pianist Jimmy Yancey during a German air raid. Korner said, "From then on all I wanted to do was play the blues."

After the war, he played piano and guitar (his first guitar was built by friend and author Sydney Hopkins, who wrote Mister God, This Is Anna), and in 1949 joined Chris Barber's Jazz Band where he met blues harmonica player Cyril Davies.

They started playing together as a duo, formed the influential London Blues and Barrelhouse Club in 1955, and made their first record together in 1957.

Korner made his first official record on Decca Records DFE 6286 in the company of Ken Colyer's Skiffle Group.

His talent extended to playing mandolin on one of the tracks of this rare British EP, recorded in London on 28 July 1955.

Korner brought many American blues artists, previously unknown in Britain, to perform.
In 1961, Korner and Davies formed Blues Incorporated, initially a loose-knit group of musicians with a shared love of electric blues and R&B music.

The group included, at various times, such influential musicians as Charlie Watts, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Long John Baldry, Graham Bond, Danny Thompson and Dick Heckstall-Smith.

It also attracted a wider crowd of mostly younger fans, some of whom occasionally performed with the group, including Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Geoff Bradford, Rod Stewart, John Mayall and Jimmy Page.

One story is that the Rolling Stones went to stay at Korner's house late one night, in the early 1960s, after a performance.

They entered in the accepted way, by climbing in through the kitchen window, to find Muddy Waters' band sleeping on the kitchen floor.[citation needed]

Although Cyril Davies left the group in 1963, Blues Incorporated continued to record, with Korner at the helm, until 1966.
However, by that time its originally stellar line-up and crowd of followers had mostly left to start their own bands.

"While his one-time acolytes the Rolling Stones and Cream made the front pages of music magazines all over the world, Korner was relegated to the role of 'elder statesman'."

Although he himself was a blues purist, Korner criticised better-known British blues musicians during the blues boom of the late 1960s for their blind adherence to Chicago blues, as if the music came in no other form.

He liked to surround himself with jazz musicians and often performed with a horn section drawn from a pool that included, among others, saxophone players Art Themen, Mel Collins, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Lol Coxhill,Dick Morrissey, John Surman and trombonist Mike Zwerin.
In the 1960s Korner began a media career, working initially as a show business interviewer and then on ITV's Five O'Clock Club, a children's TV show. Korner also wrote about blues for the music papers, and continued to maintain his own career as a blues artist, especially in Europe.

On 17 October 1967, Korner interviewed the Jimi Hendrix Experience for the BBC radio showTop Gear. Some of these tracks, including audio of Korner himself, appear on the Hendrix double-CD BBC Sessions, including Korner playing slide guitar on "(I'm Your) Hoochie Coochie Man".

While touring Scandinavia he first joined forces with guitarist and singer Peter Thorup, together forming the band New Church, who were one of the support bands at the Rolling Stones Free Concert in Hyde Park, London, on 5 July 1969.

Jimmy Page reportedly found out about a new singer, Robert Plant, who had been jamming with Korner, who wondered why Plant had not yet been discovered.

Plant and Korner were in the process of recording a full album with Plant on vocals until Page had asked him to join "the New Yardbirds", aka Led Zeppelin.

Only two songs are in circulation from these recordings: "Steal Away" and "Operator".

Alexis Korner gave one of his last radio interviews to BBC Midlands on the Record Collectors Show with Mike Adams and the Late Chris Savory.
In 1970 Korner and Thorup formed a big-band ensemble, C.C.S. - short for "The Collective Consciousness Society" - which had several hit singles produced by Mickie Most, including a version of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love", which was used as the theme for BBC's Top Of The Pops between 1971 and 1981.

Another instrumental called "Brother" was used as the theme to the BBC Radio 1 Top 20/40 when Tom Browne/Simon Bates presented the programme in the 1970s.

This was the period of Korner's greatest commercial success in the UK.
In 1973, he formed another group, Snape, with Boz Burrell, Mel Collins, and Ian Wallace, who were previously together in King Crimson.

Korner also played on B.B. King's In London album, and cut his own, similar "supersession" album; Get Off My Cloud, with Keith Richards, Peter Frampton, Nicky Hopkins and members of Joe Cocker's Grease Band.

In the mid-1970s, while touring Germany, Korner established an intensive working relationship with bassist Colin Hodgkinson who played for the support act Back Door. They would continue to collaborate right up until Korner's death.

In the 1970s Korner's main career was in broadcasting.

In 1973 he presented a unique 6-part documentary on BBC Radio 1, The Rolling Stones Story, and in 1977 he established a Sunday-night blues and soul show on Radio 1, Alexis Korner's Blues and Soul Show, which ran until 1981.

He also used his gravelly voice to great effect as an advertising voice-over artist. In 1978, for Korner's 50th birthday, an all-star concert was held featuring many of his above-mentioned friends, as well as Eric Clapton, Paul Jones, Chris Farlowe, Zoot Money and others, which was later released as The Party Album, and as a video.

In 1981, Korner joined another "supergroup", Rocket 88, a project led by Ian Stewart based on boogie-woogie keyboard players, which featured a rhythm section comprising Jack Bruce and Charlie Watts, among others, as well as a horn section.

They toured Europe and released an album on Atlantic Records.

He played in Italy with Paul Jones and the Blues Society of Italian bluesman Guido Toffoletti.

Korner married Roberta, daughter of art critic Robert Melville.

He died of lung cancer in London on 1 January 1984 and was survived by a daughter, musician Sappho Gillett Korner, and two sons, guitarist Nicholas (Nico) Korner and sound engineer Damian Korner.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Return to Forever "Denver 1974 [TheTooleMan Presents, 1CD] Live at Ebbets Field, Denver, CO; August 9, 1974" by Elric

Obrigado!!!!!!!!!!!
Mano Dead Or Alive

Não me lembro bem, mas acho que você gosta desses caras ou curtiu, sei lá... a cabeça já não tá mais a mesma eh ehe he

Segue lá
Um abraço.

"Thanks to TheTooleMan, who shared these tracks on the net in 2005.

TheTooleMan noted:

The original recording was in excellent condition, sounding like an original tape made at the radio station from the feed from the club.

There is slight audible tape damage during the first minute or so of the the first track.

The original tape ran about 83 minutes and included about three minutes of Chick blabbering and filling time while Stanley’s acoustic bass was miked.

Parts of this and some other empty spaces been removed to fit the entire program on an 80-minute CD. No music has been lost.

Audio levels and dynamics were adjusted and EQ were applied.

Audio quality is top-notch."

Living Colour - Vivid - 1987/88

Além do clipe, Cult of Personality ganhou um Grammy.

V.A. - "A Special Tribute To Pink Floyd" by Veio

Having listened to their albums and live recordings a zillion times, I'm always looking for fresh interpretations of Pink Floyd. Most tributes phonographically copy the original band or fall embarrassingly short in the attempt. Both types are dull.

"A Special Tribute to Pink Floyd" falls into the first category.

That written, there is nothing wrong with this recording.

The musicians perform well and the production is excellent.

Unlike the Easy Star All-Stars that did a reggae tribute, this is just straight rock.

The esteemed Australian Pink Floyd Show also plays literal versions, but it's a live experience.

The Aussies appreciate the futility of making such an audio recording.

The listener is better off passing this one by and enjoying the originals.

Jet "Get Born" by Lucy

"Are you gonna be my girl"?

Nunca ouviram Supremes? Ou vocês acham que 'Lust for Life' não tem influência de nada"?

E encerrou o assunto. Not bad. :)

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!
