John Arch from Fates Warning



John Arch (born John Maurice Archambault, May 15, 1959 in Colorado Springs) is an American progressive metal singer most notable for his work with the band Fates Warning. Arch co-wrote the majority of the band's songs with guitarist Jim Matheos, and was the band's sole lyricist. After their third album, Awaken the Guardian, was released, Arch was asked to quit his job or leave the band. Financial obligations made it impossible for Arch to quit his job, and he argued that he had shown 100% commitment to the band throughout the years. However, the band informed him that they had to let him go and started to look for another singer. In one interview with John Arch, he said that he would have quit his job if he was asked, but the rest of the band never asked him to.









A Twist of Fate is an EP by singer John Arch, released on June 17, 2003 through Metal Blade Records. At the time, the EP was Arch's first musical work in over seventeen years since leaving progressive metal band Fates Warning in 1987, with whom he recorded their first three albums; the last being Awaken the Guardian (1986). Consisting of only two tracks, A Twist of Fate features Fates Warning founder and guitarist Jim Matheos, with whom Arch would later release a collaborative album in 2011, entitled Sympathetic Resonance, under the banner of Arch/Matheos. Also among the line-up are former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy and current Fates Warning bassist Joey Vera.

The Spirit of John Morgan


Spirit of John Morgan was an English progressive rock band which played crossover prog blended with folk, blues, sould r'n'b & pop influences.

Spirit of John Morgan (1969) - good mix of psycedelic rock, heavy blues, some folk and early british progressive rock (especially great John Morgan's organ). surely their best album. Very consistent. (Grham Bond's song "I Want You" from this album later was again covered by retro prog Italian band called "Standarte" in their s/t album. Also includes "Honky Tonk Train Blues".

CAIN - Hard rock


Cain was a hard rocking Twin Cities band that tried to take on the music industry in the mid-seventies. Their two small label albums were serious hard rock guitar extravaganzas, but with great fun original tunes, raucous lead vocals, and sweet backing vocals. Their influences ranged from the guitar of Deep Purple and Robin Trower, the majesty of Queen, and the vocal harmonies of Styx
Cain's roots went back a number of years. In 1969, the Twin Cities band The Bananas went through some personnel changes. Guitarist Lloyd Forsberg, bassist Dave Elmeer, and keyboardist Al Dworsky brought in Jiggs Lee on vocals and Mike Mlazgar on drums. Jiggs (from the Grasshoppers) and Mike (from Crow!) replaced Jim Offerman and Joe Soucheray. A name change was desired and Lloyd came up with "Cain." Like many local bands, Cain performed at teen clubs and school dances. Eventually, they worked their way up to college shows and started to gain a "heavy" reputation outside of the Twin Cities. Along the way, Mike Mlazgar was replaced by Tom Osfar and Al Dworsky was replaced by Jerry Magee. 



Of course, Cain started writing their own material. The popular ballad "Katy" was written by their next keyboardist, Chas Carlson. Their tours took them to neighboring states with gigs in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Carbondale. They worked clubs with other Midwest bands like Styx, Kansas, and Cheap Trick. More personnel changes occurred before they went in to the studio to record their first album in 1975: Tom Osfar was replaced by Kevin DeRemer (from the Everett James Band) and keyboards were dropped from the line-up entirely.  Their first hard rocking album was titled "A Pound of Flesh" (a reference to Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice"). It's not known what the band thought of the cover image that ASI Records' marketing department created. 
The album's guitar sound brings to mind Richie Blackmore; the main riff of the album's opener "Queen of the Night" is in the same vein as Deep Purple's "Burn." Lloyd's Stratocaster sound ventures into Robin-Trower-land on "Badside." The album features an ode to girlie magazines on "If the Right Don't Get You the Left One Will," a big power ballad with "Katy," and an epic rocker with "All My Life." 



They supported the album with tours that took them as far as Texas. 
In 1977, the second (and last) album in their ASI contract, "Stinger," was released. This album was just as hard rocking as the first, but the song writing really advanced. The Queen influences come out strong on "Welcome to the Dance" and the title track "Stinger" (which was a big live favorite when Jiggs broke out the burning book!). The album's Big Power Ballad was "The Minstrel Song." 
A third album was only half completed in 1978 when disco and other pressures took its toll on the group. Dave and Jiggs left the group, while Lloyd and Kevin continued on as Cain for another year before calling it quits.

The key players were Nicky Gebhard (born in Berlin) a self-taught drummer, who started in jazz-rock with the Günther Boas Band, and one Reimund Eberth, a blues guitarist and singer.

KRAVETZ!!!!!


Jean Jacques Kravetz is a french multi-instrumentalist (piano, keyboard, sax) and fruitful composer who spent his whole career in Germany. He first made a name in the Hamburg musical scene. In relative discretion he published a solo effort simply called Kravetz (1972). In this solo excursion he was accompanied by the famous Udo Lindenberg on drums. Musically, the album is a pleasant combination between heavy fuzzy organs and krauty improvisations. Kravetz is mostly known for being the keyboardist of Frumpy, Kin Ping Meh and Atlantis. Today he is recognised as one of the great pioneers of German rock.

Asia - Um Prog anos 80


Após o término do King Crimson em 1974, vários planos para a formação de um supergrupo envolvendo o baixista John Wetton foram cogitados, incluindo o projeto British Bulldog com Bill Bruford e Rick Wakeman em 1976. Em 1977, Bruford e Wetton reuniram-se no UK junto com o guitarrista Allan Holdsworth e o tecladista e violinista Eddie Jobson. Seu álbum homônimo de estréia foi lançado em 1978. Em 1980, após o fim do UK e a saída de Wetton do Wishbone Ash, um novo supergrupo foi sugerido envolvendo Wetton, Wakeman, Carl Palmer e Trevor Rabin, mas Wakeman desistiu pouco antes. No ano seguinte Wetton e o guitarrista Steve Howe começaram a trabalhar juntos, com Howe, recém saido do Yes, no início do mesmo ano. Howe e Wetton reuniram-se então com o tecladista do Yes e do The Buggles, Geoff Downes. Carl Palmer reuniu-se também postariormente. Trevor Rabin também foi considerado para a banda e chegou a gravar alguns materiais junto, mas desistiu para aceitar a oferta de Chris Squire e Alan White no qual tornou-se o novo Yes. As primeiras ofertas para a banda foram consideradas decepcionantes para os críticos1 e para os fãs do rock progressivo tradicional, que consideraram sua música muito mais próxima ao AOR. Entretanto a banda cativou fãs de bandas do começo da década de 1980 tais como Journey, Boston e Electric Light Orchestra.


Asia é uma banda de rock progressivo formada em 1981 como um supergrupo de ex-integrantes de Yes, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer e The Buggles. Alguns sucessos da banda são Heat Of the Moment, Only Time Will Tell e Wildest Dreams, músicas do primeiro álbum da banda, lançado em 1982. Posteriormente, as formações foram mudando, sendo a mais significativa, a saída de John Wetton em 1991, e a subsequente entrada de John Payne, no baixo e vocal.

O primeiro álbum da banda, Asia, teve sucesso comercial considerável, permanecendo por nove semanas no primeiro lugar das paradas dos Estados Unidos, impulsionado pelos singles "Only Time Will Tell" e "Heat of the Moment", ambos banstante usados um eventos esportivos naquele país. A turnê por aquele país também foi bem sucedida, com lotação em todas as datas entre 1982 e 1983, enquanto que a MTV também mostrava bastante seus videoclipes. Foi considerado pela Billboard o álbum do ano. Downes a esta altura detinha o posto de tecladista com maior número de teclados em um palco. Usava cerca de dezessete instrumentos em turnê, marca que não foi superada até hoje. A banda tornou-se uma das pioneiras da segunda fase do rock progressivo ao evitar as longas composições da primeira fase da década de 1970, um formato mais atrativo para as rádios. Álbuns seguintes como 90125 (Yes) seguiram os passos do Asia.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - sem Palmer e sem Lake!???


1978 foi um ano de crise para o ELP. Eles estavam cansados e sua música não tinha mais aquela inspiração. Eles se separaram por cansaço e alguns conflitos pessoais... 

Em 1985, Emerson e Lake reformaram o Emerson, Lake & Palmer, e o chamaram de Emerson, Lake & Powell desta vez com o baterista de heavy metal Cozy Powell. Palmer não aceitou participar da reunião, preferindo se manter com o Asia. Rumores também ligavam Bill Bruford à nova formação, mas o ex-baterista do Yes estava com o King Crimson e seu novo grupo Earthworks. Emerson, Lake & Powell teve sucesso razoável, com o single Touch and Go gerando espaço nas rádios e na MTV. Apesar disso, a tensão já antiga entre Lake e Emerson resurgiu na turnê de 1986. Emerson e Palmer posteriormente se uniram a Robert Berry para formar a banda 3, que não obteve sucesso.

Seguem estes registros, que embora não sejam grandes obras, constam na história deste grande grupo, e devem constar na coleção de fãs do ELP...
